Look in the mirror,
And what do you see?
I see a small girl,
That used to be me.
She’d smile all day,
And cheer when you laughed.
But now she just cries,
When she thinks of the past.
Touch the cold glass,
What do you feel?
I feel a girl’s hand,
That now feels like steel.
Those poor little hands,
That want to be held.
A poor broken heart,
That couldn’t be helped.
Now open your soul, And what do you dream? I dream for a love, That’s as real as it seems. Now I’ll open my eyes, And see you right there. Now it’s seems God, Has answered my prayer.
Reflection/After thoughts: I wrote this poem with the thought being that feeling lonely itself can weigh you down. It can make you perceive that you aren't "good" enough to be loved. But that isn't true at all. Maybe all you need to do is take a small step outside of your comfort zone, and start a conversation with someone you don't usually talk to. Expand your inner circle. By even just greeting someone new, your building confidence in yourself, and taking a positive risk at opening yourself up. Who knows, maybe you will make a new friend, that you probably wouldn't make if you didn't take that risk. Give yourself that chance!
Quote relating to loneliness~
"There's only one life for everyone to live, you deserve to live it surrounded by all the if people you love, don't let loneliness win."
5 skills I recommend to use if you feel overwhelmed or emotionally escalated;
1. Try some aromatherapy (candle, lotion, essential oils)
2. Write yourself an "appreciation" letter
3. Perform a random act of kindness
4. Text or call an old friend
5. Make a playlist of your favorite songs
Remember that with every negative thought you have there are at least three realities that can counteract the false negativity that is overtaking your thought process.
Keep reminding yourself of the positive qualities you as an individual hold, because holding a praiseful self image standard for yourself, will boost your confidence, and show more of a lighter, happier side to you.
"The relationship you have with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship you have" ~Jane Travis
